Oh my. i love this book and I could feel the energy from the ride or die couple. I remember these characters from a previous read and I'm glad the author brought them back. This book is that top street literature that makes Empire writers say damn.

We all want to be loved by someone. We don't want that person playing with our heart, mind, or time. We don't to waste time loving someone who is not capable of loving us in the same manner. We all hide a piece of darkness within, whether we will admit to it or not.
Brenda, Tweetie, and Chardonnay are the best of friends. We meet them as teenagers and automatically know they are definitely friends and sisters. They have unique bonds, which endears them to you. Brenda is the most high-spirited one of the bunch. Her home life is not one that you would write home about, but she loves her family, regardless of the fact that home life is rotten. Brenda is dating J-Rock, one of the most popular guys in their school. She is still a virgin but wants J-Rock to be the one to take her virginity. J-Rock is your normal high school jock who thinks the world revolves around him. He is all about the girls and shows his true colors at a party. Brenda gets into an altercation with a girl and leaves the party with J-Rock. He attempts to take her virginity in the car in an alley and when she refuses, puts her out of his car. Brenda is walking in the alley when she is accosted by a homeless man and saved by Mack Todd. Mack Todd takes her home. This is only the beginning for Mack Todd and Brenda and they don't even know it yet.
Brenda and Tweetie go to a party at a local nightclub called Denim and Diamond's, that holds teen parties . They are enjoying themselves to the fullest. Brenda goes to the bathroom and upon leaving the bathroom, runs into Mack Todd again. They are conversing when shots rang out through the club. Todd grabs Brenda and shelters her. Brenda's friend Tweetie was on the dance floor when shots started firing and she is killed. Todd saves Brenda again and swears that he and his friends will get the killers of her best friend. Their relationship forms from that moment of tragedy.
Todd and Brenda are married and raising their son. Brenda is also raising her sister Chanell, who turned her life around for the better. Things are going well until one night Todd and Brenda, being the stick-up kids they are, rob a liquor store. Todd is arrested and things get tight in their household. Brenda runs into J-Rock again, who seems to have turned over a new leaf. While Todd is locked down, Brenda spends time with J-Rock, with no promises being made except for when Todd gets out, their marriage will still be intact. Todd is back home and Brenda is pregnant but this baby is not Todd's and J-Rock knows it. He sets things in motion that cannot be changed and will change all of their lives.
I am rating four stars. This was an intriguing read that kept me on my toes. Brenda and Todd were a match made in heaven, even with the secrets they were keeping. Cameron kept me engaged with her style of writing.
